In 1999 people, communities and organisations from across the District came together to take part in the largest consultation in the District’s history; the purpose of this was to develop a shared long-term plan that set out what we wanted Bradford District to be, and how we wanted it to get there; from this came the 2020 Vision.
Whilst the 2020 Vision is economically led, it also sets out where we want the District to be in 20 years time in terms of education, health, housing, crime, culture, levels of public involvement in decision making and the environment.
Making the 2020 Vision a reality is the responsibility of a wide variety of individuals and organisations, including those that provide many of the public services to your community – like health care, policing and education.
Delivering the 2020 Vision has been progressed through the District Community Strategy 2002-07. A Progress Report has recently been prepared.
A great deal of progress has been made over the last five years, unemployment has fallen to historically low levels and we have achieved the second highest reduction in recorded volume crime in the country. However, we recognise that there are still challenges that need to be addressed, and that our success will not be maintained by becoming complacent.
